WATCHMAN WARNING: WHAT IS HAPPENING?

That is a question I expect on the minds of many believers.  We are so very close to the return of the Lord.  And now we see a bold change in the government of the US that will surely lead to a move away from the trend to the one world government that was so well underway.  A very few other places have had a similar change in government, such as Argentina, but not many.  The UN, the World Economic Forum, and others all continue to work towards the one-world government.

So what does this mean?  Still and most obviously, we all should be alert to all that is happening as the Lord has warned us in Luke 21:36, and be ready to go when he comes.

Beyond that, let me say that nothing has changed regarding our being so close to the return of Jesus.  All those prophecies fulfilled, everything is still in line for that.  His coming to collect his sheep could happen anytime.

Here are some interesting insights regarding the newly elected government in the US:

  • There seems to be some talk about encouraging the building of the third temple in Jerusalem. Well, that does need to be ready by the middle of the Tribulation when the antichrist comes to take up residence there, but that building could all happen during the early years of the Tribulation.  Still, it is interesting to hear this being discussed!

  • The newly nominated secretary of defense himself has spoken of the need to build the temple on a specific spot on the temple mount.

  • The newly appointed ambassador to Israel under the new administration is a strong supporter of Israel, as are several in the new administration

  • Likely, we shall see a return to the efforts of the previous Trump administration to bring about a peace accord with Israel and its many neighbors. You may remember the successful Abraham accords that brought some Arab nations  to an improved relationship with Israel.

  • In the election on November 5, the overwhelming number of evangelical Christians voted for President Trump. Similarly, the great number of Catholics voted for President Trump.  But, sadly and shockingly, the overwhelming number of Jews in the US voted for the losing side, the socialist government that was leading the US into the one-world government and that does not strongly support Israel.  It seems inconceivable, but then we have to realize these people do not know Jesus.  And for that matter, so many are not even serious Jews, rather being ethnic Jews.  Well, the time of their coming face to face with truth is near at hand, just not yet.
All this is interesting surely.  But then you and I know a bit more.  We know that once a true peace agreement is signed by Israel that the people believe in so much they live in unwalled villages, the seven year Tribulation begins.  In fact, it begins the moment that agreement is signed.  And the individual who clearly leads that to come about is the antichrist.

We also have noticed all the interaction between Russia and Turkey and Iran in recent years.  All that is leading up to their attack on Israel in the Ezekiel 38-39 war, an attack that is obviously repelled by God in a way all should recognize his hand.  That attack will happen early in the Tribulation period, for the people are living in unwalled villages when it occurs the Bible says.

I do have one other overriding comment:  the new administration is not yet in office.  It seems an eerily quiet period in the US.  We all should be praying for peace and safety for all involved as this goes forward.

We should still expect the Lord’s return to collect his believers before the beginning of the Tribulation, for as we have noted so many times, in several places the Bible notes we were not appointed to suffer wrath.  Besides, the antichrist will not be free on earth to work to bring about the famous peace agreement that begins the Tribulation unless the true CHURCH, the true believers, have been taken out of the way.

Keep your eyes on Jesus.  At all times.  Pray in the Spirit.  Seek his guidance.  Remember, the Holy Spirit guides you into all truth, tells you things yet to come, and reminds you of things Jesus has said to you.  If you don’t know the Holy Spirit and his gifts, pray to receive that and the baptism of the Spirit.  If possible, ask a Spirit-filled believer to pray for you for this.  Or contact us and we can pray for you over the telephone.

* A MESSAGE FOR OUR HEARTS

Some years ago in a difficult time I was lying on the floor at home praying.

God suddenly spoke to me:  “You know how much I love Jesus?  That’s how much I love you.”

His presence and love were intense.

I think I knew that before, but this was God the Father saying it directly to me.

Overwhelming.  I lay there overwhelmed.  Engulfed in him.

God.

He loves all believers in Jesus the same way, you know.  The Bible actually says that (John 17:23).

God.  The focus of our lives above everything and everyone else.

Our role is to love God in return and keep him above everything else in our lives.

Jesus once said that “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me (Matthew 10:37).

Of course we are to love all those people, just not more than Jesus.

Remember the ten commandments?  What is number one?  Just this:  You shall have no other Gods before me.

What is the way to God?  Through Jesus.

God – Father, Jesus, the Holy Spirit.

There is nothing more important in life than knowing Jesus and being in the right relationship with him.

* SIGN OF THE TIMES: MANY CANNOT SEE THE TRUTH

All of us are witness to one of the most troubling and frightening aspects of our time – the fact that many people just cannot see the truth at all.  Not only can they not see the truth, but their ideas and views are terribly irrational  and do not tie in with the history of the country or the Christian faith. It is nearly impossible to have any sort of discussion of issues with such people.

All this is not really surprising to any who have studied the end times, just depressing and disturbing. In 2 Thessalonians 2: 10-11, Paul says such people

perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason, God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

Who can deny that many out there just cannot seem to understand truth in any situation.  They are readily willing to believe the lie and to act on the lie. We could go further with this by citing the passage in Isaiah 5:20 that refers to calling evil good and good evil. I think we readily see that happening today as well.

We all pray and hope for a great last days’ awakening, for as many as possible to hear the truths of God and respond. But apparently many won't. Look at the words of the angel to Daniel in Daniel 12: 10 about our day:

Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.

It is pretty obvious there are people who just are not going to hear the truth, will remain lost, will remain in the wicked camp. These will not be in the Kingdom of God but rather will end up in the lake of fire for eternity.

This makes our lives and our responsibilities difficult and challenging. We who are believers certainly want to help others become born again and become citizens of the Kingdom. And so we pray for the Father to lead specific people to Jesus. We ask the Holy Spirit for guidance in our speaking to specific people about Jesus. We ask for the Spirit to arrange encounters, to set up divine appointments.  And well we should. The Lord certainly gave us all the challenge of getting the Gospel out there.

But still the fact remains that there are those who will not and cannot hear. Once again we must remember the Lord's words in Matthew 7: 14:

…small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

*HEART LESSON: LET PEOPLE KNOW YOU CARE

Today we believers focus so much on the signs of the times and the imminent return of the Lord; in doing that, we note the deterioration in society and all the really bad things happening in America and throughout the world.  But still we must never let our focus stray from God’s heart, the love the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit have for us.  And on that focus I write this short piece.  It is all true and it is from my life.  Look how much God loves me and these other people.  He loves you the same.

In recent years God has brought to my mind people from my distant past.  From several decades ago!  Sometimes I find myself thinking about a particular person I knew in high school or in college.  The thinking comes with deep sighs of the soul, which is a clear indication the Holy Spirit is arranging all this.  These people are both male and female, but here I want to give you a really interesting example that involves three women – actually they were more like girls at the time (names have been changed).  One was Ann, a small, energetic, really fun to be around girl that I went out to do fun things with when I was about sixteen.  And then there was Julie, an artistic, creative woman who I went on dates with off and on from my being about age 18 to age 21.  And then there was my neighbor Sally.  She was “the girl next door.” I grew up with her. We played together a few times when we were little.  As we grew we did a few things together and even went to the junior-senior prom together twice.

Why Is God bringing all this back to me after so many years?  I find as I think about them I am strangely and deeply moved.

So, perhaps amazingly, I have chosen to do more than just think about this.  I have taken action.   About five years ago at our high school reunion I noticed that Ann was not there.  I asked the person who coordinated all that, and she said that Ann worked in a large store nearby.  My wife Cathy and I went over to that store the next day.  We inquired about Ann, and after a brief description a person realized who we were talking about and pointed us to a woman sitting down looking at her cell phone.    We went up to her, and I said Hi Ann.  I’m John Newlin.  And the conversation took off from there.  For a very few minutes we talked about various things.   And then she had to get back to work.  So she stood up, came over to me, and gave me a hug.  I loved that of course.  And that was that.  I realized in a little bit that now Ann knows how much she meant to me – after decades and while visiting from our home far away, I had taken the time to track her down and talk to her.  I felt good about that.  In some way there was a closure there.

Five more years passed, and not long ago we went back to my hometown again to another reunion.  I was sitting with two old friends that had been part of a group of close friends in high school.  Suddenly a woman came up to the other side of the table, laughing and full of energy.  She said some things to each of the other two, and they laughed.  Then she looked across the table at me and said, “What happened?  We had a date and then you were gone.  Where did you go?”  And she laughed and then went on to another table to sit down.

It was Julie.  And I realized, after all these years, all these decades, she still remembered our time together and she has wondered why it ended so!  God was orchestrating this encounter!  I knew I could not let it end there.  So in a few minutes, while a couple we had come with were waiting to leave, I walked over to her table and sat down in the chair next to her.  We talked a bit about what she was doing, but I knew that I only had a minute or two more to stay.  So suddenly I looked at her and said, “Julie, you were a very special person to me.”  And she looked back at me and said “You were special to me too.”  And I got up and walked out.

So now Julie knows how much she meant to me.  There is no going back to a past of several decades ago.  But she knows now she wasn’t just imagining.  She had been a real part of my life.  And I think closure again.

That brings me to Sally, my girl next door that I watched grow up.  Well, there is no way to tell Sally what she meant to me.  You see, she died a few years ago.  I found that out too at one of those class reunions.  So what good is it to me that I think about her?  And remember her over the growing up years of my life?  Maybe it’s all just a clear lesson not to let times get away from us.  A clear lesson that each of us should always tell others what they mean to us.  Even after many decades, I got to do that with two of these three.

Don’t let such opportunities get away from you.  There is no way you know if you will ever see a person again.  Can I repeat that?  There is no way you know if you will ever see a person again.  Make sure every person close to you and everyone who has made a difference in your life knows that they mean something to you!  That you appreciate them.

So I am doing all that now as I can.  I am telling people how much I appreciate them, how grateful I am for having known them and how thankful for all they have done for me or contributed to my life.

Tell them!!! Especially older people but really anyone.  This is a temporary place we are living, one from which anyone can depart at a moment’s notice.  When you say goodbye to someone you do not know if you will ever see them again.  You may really be saying farewell.  Don’t let them go on without their knowing what they mean to you.

* WATCHMAN WARNING: MY PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE LORD

Jeremiah recorded God’s words above regarding his people in Jeremiah’s day (Jeremiah 8:7).  It surely applies to many in our day.

Yes, there are of course requirements of the Lord, all that guidance God gave regarding how we are to live, all the wisdom and commands Jesus gave regarding life and what humans are to do.

There are even specific requirements for anyone hoping to be in the Kingdom of God.  Yes there are, even though many have never heard them.  It is certainly true that it is by grace you have been saved and not by works, so that no one can boast.  Paul said that.  Jesus certainly paid the price, a horrible price, for each person to have the opportunity to be saved, to be with him in the Kingdom.  But Jesus said more on the subject of salvation:

  • Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit (John 3:5). A person must be born anew, or born again.  They must be washed clean of all sin and receive a new spirit; in essence, God himself becomes their father.  This is the transformative moment in the life of a believer in Jesus.  I know this  can be difficult to understand.  Perhaps a great scripture that helps is this scripture from Ezekiel in which God is talking about returning the exiled Israelites to their home, the ingathering of the Jews:    “I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” (Ezekiel 36:25-27)

  • Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven (Matthew 7:21). A person must do the will of Jesus’ father in Heaven; they must do God’s will (not their own independent will.).

  • Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it (Mark 10:15). A person must be like little children in their faith; i.e., their faith must be innocent and absolute just like the way little children believe their parents.

  • For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16). As I have said before, this word translated believes here is absolute belief – for example, you believe there is enough oxygen in the room where you are now to keep you alive or else you would be running out.  That kind of absolute belief.
Elsewhere in many other verses Jesus talks about specific behaviors and actions of people that will keep them out of the Kingdom.  I’ve written about these before.  Here is a specific list that Jesus covers from Revelation 22:15:

  • Living a homosexual lifestyle; said another way, living a deviant or sexually immoral lifestyle. I list this first because it is so obvious in our modern society. God considers homosexuality an abomination.  There are many different scriptures pointing this out, and there is no reason for anyone to miss the message unless they intentionally just don’t want  to believe.  Here are some key scriptures: Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 22:13, Romans 1:18-32, 1 Timothy 1:9-10, 1 Corinthian 6:9-10, and Revelation 22:15. So the LGBTQ movement is an eternal sentence to hell for its members.
  • As a general overall comment on deviant sexual lifestyle, Jesus says in the last page of the Bible that the sexually immoral will be outside that Kingdom. There is even a scripture in Deuteronomy 22:5 where God describes a man’s dressing as a woman or a woman as a man as an abomination.
  • Another specific behavior keeping people out of the Kingdom is practicing falsehood. Liars in other words.  Perpetual liars.  Habitual liars.  Out government is full of those, even at the very top.  So too the media.  You know that.  Well, there is a cost to such behavior, an eternal cost, the greatest cost imaginable.
  • Idolaters will not be in the Kingdom either. Idolaters of course are people who put other things at the top of their priority list above God, like getting more and more money and more and more power as so many of our corporate top executives and highly wealthy elite seem to live today (and some of the top politicians as well.).
  • Those who practice magic arts are also excluded from the Kingdom. Those are people who practice all sorts of bizarre actions to influence and control others.   Another translation is sorcery.
  • Jesus also says dogs are excluded, meaning ungodly people with impure minds exercising immoral ways. That is a hard word for us to understand, but that is what it means.
  • Murderers too are excluded from the Kingdom.

Of course, those who are simply not believers, who do not fulfill the points I listed earlier that Jesus said are necessary to be in the Kingdom, will be excluded.  So I expect that in addition to all true atheists and agnostics and followers of false religions like Islam and Buddhism and such, many of those who attend those lost and dry churches on Sunday mornings will be left out as well.

Today how many of those who say they are Christians understand at all the requirements of the Lord and live in them?  How many?  How often do you hear of any churches teaching any of this?  For that matter, notice how so many churches never teach or operate in the Holy Spirit and his gifts.  Or teach of the imminent returning of the Lord or the fullness of the gospel and all God has for us or the authority we have in Jesus.  It is a power gospel, and Jesus’ believers realize that and live in it.

Well, soon the Lord is returning.   Really really soon.  Keep your eyes on him.  Above everything else, keep your focus on Jesus.  “Watch” was his command at the end of his remarks about his return.  “Watch!”

Stay in the  right relationship with him.  Don’t drift away.  Don’t backslide.

One further point - we know from Paul that having the Holy Spirit is in fact a guarantee of our salvation, like a stamp of approval or badge.  Something to be devoutly sought and possessed.  Does the Bible say that?  Yes it does:  13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. – (Ephesians 1:13-14)

That seal is a wonderful thing to have, surely!  And the Holy Spirit and his gifts are an invaluable guide through life.

Certainly if God was troubled that his people in Jeremiah’s day did not know his requirements, I expect he is troubled today by so many not knowing his requirements.  The difference is that we are living at the very end of this age.  It is not the Babylonians coming to take people off to their land.  It is Jesus coming to take his people off to be with him, and then it is the beginning of the terrible Tribulation for those left behind.

Everyone who knows the Lord, WATCH!  BE READY!

And everyone who does not know or is not sure that they are saved, get serious about it.  Ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life.  Ask him to forgive your sins.   And seek to receive the Holy Spirit too.  Find a Spirit-filled believer if you can to pray for you to receive the Spirit. Or if you can’t find such a person, just ask the Holy Spirit to come to you in power.  Guidance by the Holy Spirit is a great benefit in these times.

Let me just say, we are not living in a time of discussion and conjecture about Jesus and some future return.    This is the real deal now.  A dividing line is being finalized, between those who truly believe and know Jesus and those who don’t.   The imminent return is close at hand.

* A WATCHMAN WARNING: TIME FOR BELIEVERS AND CHURCHES TO SPEAK OUT!

We are at the very end of the last days, things on earth are getting worse and worse, and the Lord will be coming soon to collect his true believers, all as prophesied.  I have written much about all this.

In all that is happening around us, we believers have the great joy of expecting the Lord.  Still, while we are yet here, there is much work to do.  Decades ago in Germany in the 1930’s, before WWII, the signs were ominous.  A terribly frightening political group was in the process of seizing power.  Only a few of the church leaders saw what was happening, the most well known of which was Dietrich Bonhoeffer.  They tried to wake up the German church, but it was far too comfortable, far too in bed historically with the government.  Most of the establishment just could not envision that this group would soon take over the government and would trash the church, the historical status quo, human decency.  They could not perceive the absolute evil that was afoot.  I wonder if some ever did.  I remember when I lived in Texas many years ago an older neighbor who had been in Germany during the war said he never knew what was happening, all the atrocities.

So Bonhoeffer and a few others tried to speak out.  But others, the majority of the church leaders, did not.  Soon it was too late.  The Nazi government was upon Germany, and hell on earth had arrived.

Bonhoeffer had some excellent phrases he used to describe all this.  You’ve seen me use them in recent writings and on Twitter.

“Silence in the face of evil is evil itself.”

“Not to act is to act.”

“Not to speak is to speak.”

“God will not hold us guiltless.”

We now are at such a time as he and his associates were facing.  Thankfully, there is of course a real difference  - we know that soon the Lord will come to collect his believers.  The prophecies are fulfilled.  That said, we still see that evil is racing everywhere to gain power and to sow immorality and horror and fear, all on the way to a one-world government the Antichrist will lead.

In these times we believers in the Lord, serious individual believers and those serious churches that are indeed focused on the truth, cannot but help to step out and speak up.  In no way can we remain silent.  In no way can we remain without any action.

Remember Jesus’ words: “He who acknowledges me before men I will acknowledge before my father.”  But then he went on to say the obvious concerning those who do not acknowledge him before men.

Wherever lies and deception and assault and murder and violence and mayhem are about, evil is active.    Wherever and whenever you hear the outrageous untruths we hear all the time today, we should do whatever we can to counter that.  Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance.  There is still time for more and more people to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and to join us in the Kingdom.  We know the truth.  We can speak the truth in love.  In the face of evil.

I know this is a frightening time.  Remember when I told the story of one time being with a minister friend at lunch in a restaurant, discussing the times and why people behaved as they did?  We wondered why the American people were so silent.  And as we walked away from our table, an older lady sitting nearby turned to us and said “I’ll tell you why.  It’s because they are scared.”

Right.  She was right.  I know that.  Despite all the knowledge of believers and their assurance of eternity in the Kingdom, people still hesitate to get involved in countering what is obviously wrong and evil.  All this massive wrong behavior on the part of the national government and the educational institutions and the media and the entertainment world and many in the corporate world – it’s just all so big, how can believers counter that?

But believers do have something overwhelmingly powerful on their side.  They have Jesus.  They have truth.  They can speak out in whatever ways are possible to them.  They can take action, as some parents have done to counter dreadful school boards pushing terrible views on children.  A great question of our time is this:  Why are believers and pastors not speaking out more against the horrors of our time, like the pushing of blatant lies like critical race theory or the woke and cancel culture or terrible wrong and harmful policies like defund the police and not enforcing law and order and the government’s openly backing deviant sexual lifestyles and girls’ athletics being so threatened by the transgender movement?  That’s the question.  Do they not realize their silence is feeding the delusional and crazed views of the people putting them forth, those who have seized such earthly power right now?  These times call for boldness on behalf of our pastors and all serious believers – boldness, and listening to and being guided by the Lord, by God, by the Holy Spirit in all that we do.

The more those with knowledge of the truth are silent, the more those of the evil side will be emboldened.  The more those with knowledge of the truth speak up and act, the more others with knowledge of the truth will be encouraged to speak up and act.  And the forces of evil will not be able to advance and destroy as rapidly as they might otherwise in these last days.

I am always encouraging you to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance in your speaking about the gospel, about Jesus, to those God puts in your path.   That still is certainly one of your and my roles.  Here I’m pointing out our role is more than that.  It is representing truth wherever we are.  It is representing good versus evil.  It is representing Jesus wherever we are.

Jesus always spoke up against evil.  Remember Jesus at the temple confronting the money changers and venting against the religious leaders there?  Remember what he called the Pharisees?  Remember how God acted through Moses against evil groups the Israelites confronted when going from Egypt to the promised land?  Remember the actions he had them undertake against horribly evil tribes?  There is so much more to following Jesus, to obeying God than just reading scripture, quietly attending a church once a week, leading others to say the sinners’ prayer.  I have written in the past of what Jesus expects and requires of those to be in the Kingdom, and I will write of it again.  Beyond truly accepting him as their Lord, it includes doing the will of his father and having the faith of little children, the absolute faith.  It’s all about truly believing God, truly believing Jesus overcame death and evil.  It’s not about intellectual faith and belief.

Whenever you speak up for truth, for the Lord, you are not alone.  He is there.  He is with you.  He is in you.  Most people will never meet Jesus in the flesh on this planet.  But they will see you.  They will see Jesus in you.  The injured man by the road saw the Good Samaritan who helped him.  He didn’t see Jesus.  Or did he?  Yes is the answer.

God bless all of you.  We are living in a time all others who ever lived could only imagine.  Yes, it is so very unpleasant.  But it is the time of the wonderful coming of the Lord.

* THANKSGIVING IN A MOST DIFFICULT TIME FOR ALL ON EARTH

Yes, 2020 has not been a good year.  So what is there to be thankful for beyond the obvious family, friends, home, and such?

What about this:

Above all things I am thankful for Jesus – that I know him and he knows me, that the Kingdom of God is in me, that I will be with him and the Father forever.

I am thankful for the Holy Spirit.  It is the Holy Spirit that guides us in all truth; he tells us of things yet to come.  He reminds us of all Jesus has said to us, testifies about Jesus, speaks only what he hears, teaches us all things.  Thank God for the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit like discernment, prophesy, healing, miraculous works, and so much more.  It is the Holy Spirit who guides us through this mess in which we find ourselves living on earth today.

I am also thankful for all that God has provided his believers in the way of direct protection.  I am thankful for the angels he has sent to serve those who will inherit salvation.  Obviously protection is part of that service.  And I am thankful for all the armor he has for us to live in and with, as Paul has described and I have written/spoken so much on.

And I am thankful for all the authority that Jesus has given us that we can do the same things he did, even greater, that in his name we can cast out demons!!!

So I am surely thankful for all these in this terrible time.

And surely I am absolutely thankful that Jesus is coming very soon.  No, I don’t know the precise day and hour, but I do know it is soon.  Really soon.

So the things we believers really have to be thankful about are these really big things of life.

They are real and they are wonderful.

The terrible coronavirus, all the confusion around it, all the unpleasant government actions, and the election confusion – all that is temporary.  Yes I know it is terrible but it is indeed temporary.  Temporary!

Jesus and our relationship with him is not temporary.  That is forever.

Thank God.

* GOING ON THE OFFENSE AGAINST CORONAVIRUS!

Jesus said believers can do the same thing he did, even greater.  He also said he would do whatever believers ask him in his name.  And the Father will give us whatever we ask him in Jesus’ name.  And that we can order mountains in our life away.  We can order them thrown into the sea.

Well, with all that authority, isn’t it time for all believers to step out and use the authority God has given us?

However you wish, wherever you are, take authority and speak in Jesus’ name against this disgusting covid-19 coronavirus disease.

First, certainly, never forget all the tools God has given us to protect ourselves and those we love.  Put on the armor of God always.  Thank him for the angels he has sent to serve you, including their protecting you.  In Jesus’ name, cast away from you and others all demons, all evil spirits.

Then go on the offensive.  In Jesus’ name order covid-19 coronavirus away from you and your family.  Order this virus away from your neighborhood and your relatives, your friends, even from the whole world.

You are God’s children.  He did not leave you powerless!  And he did not leave you without guidance either, real-time guidance through the Holy Spirit.

We have an amazing God, an amazing Savior and Lord, and an amazing Holy Spirit.  Live the believer’s life that was intended.  Our gospel is a gospel of power, not just of words.

*SIGN OF THE TIMES: LIVING IN THE MIDST OF THE WAR

We live in the midst of an enormous spiritual war, a war between good and evil, between Satan and all his followers and the forces of God.

This spiritual war has always impacted our physical world, sometimes dramatically so such as WWII (Hitler and the Nazis).  It has grown dramatically on earth in our day.  This battle involves people of all sorts.  There are good people fighting on the side of good in all races, all economic levels, all nationalities.  And there are bad people fighting on the evil side in all races, all nationalities, all economic levels.

This war only gets worse as we head for the end of these last days, the return of Jesus to collect his believers, the Tribulation, the battle at Armageddon, and the establishment of Kingdom rule from Jerusalem and the beginning of the thousand years.

The large group of people out there that appear so insane and irrational to you and me really are horribly misled – but their behavior is due to demonic influences, the evil one and his minions running amuck.   How often today do we hear politicians and reporters and entertainers calling good evil and evil good?  How often do we see and hear militant groups justifying their outrageous and violent behavior with insane explanations, or even not justifying it at all?  And we know what God says about all this:

Woe to those who call evil good
    and good evil,
who put darkness for light
    and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter! – Isaiah 5:20 NIV

Born again, spirit-filled Christians can discern the truth of what is going on if they use the Holy Spirit gift of discernment.  But others can’t, at least not usually. Unfortunately there are a great many more people out there who are not born again, spirit-filled Christians than there are in the born again, spirit-filled group.

Obviously our battle really is against the evil spirits, as Paul pointed out when he said:  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12 NIV).  But sadly the evil is manifesting through these lost, misled people, and those on the side of good must protect themselves against this behavior and them and take all wise steps to confront and stop this evil.

And thus it goes.

This is where we are and the environment on earth in which we all find ourselves.  Keep your eyes on Jesus, focus, protect yourselves with the tools God gives us such as putting on the armor, the protection of the angels God has sent us, and the casting out of evil spirits in Jesus’ name as Jesus has said we can do.

In these last days do your part to get the truths of Jesus and his imminent return out to all you can.  Talk to others about all this, ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and to arrange divine encounters.  Give people copies of our book WAKE UP AMERICA!  That is a nonthreatening thing you can do.  They can read it in their own homes by themselves.

All this will eventually end.  But as of this writing it hasn’t.

* WHAT DID WE JUST WITNESS?

Jesus made the point that, excluding himself, no greater person had lived than John the Baptist.  No one.

Along that same line of thinking, yesterday I asked this question on Twitter:

Did we just see the death of the greatest person to live in our lifetimes?

And the answer:

Don’t know.  Only God knows that.  But it certainly appears possible.

Makes us feel empty, doesn’t it.

Makes us feel even more alone and out there.

Makes us feel less secure.

I really hate it when persons I care so much about die.  Close family members of course.  But I am talking here about those persons who so influence our life positively but whom we may not really know personally.  Once they are gone, they are gone.  They are no longer with us here.  And we believers must soldier on.

Billy Graham would of course make the point that we are where we always were, in the hands of a loving and all powerful God.  His leaving hasn’t changed that.

Nope.  We still have God.  We still have Jesus.  We still have the Holy Spirit.

Most on the earth don’t have or know that.  So they are really out there alone.  You aren’t.

I am a bit surprised, I admit.  He had said some time ago that he was surprised to find himself alive with all his contemporaries gone.  And he had remarked that he thought, or wondered, if God were leaving him to be here when the Lord comes in the rapture.

Well, he almost made it.  I wonder why God took him home now.  Interesting.  So close to the return.  Maybe to have a big celebration for Billy alone, not mixed up with all the other saints when they come home at that time.  Maybe.

I saw yesterday Franklin quoting some of his father’s remarks: “You’re not saved by joining a church.  You’re not saved by living a good moral life.  You’re saved only because of the grace of God in Christ.” Sounds familiar, much like what I am always writing, like what any true believer knows.  It is all about a one on one relationship with God.  It is you and God, not you and anyone else and God.  You know that.  So many of those around you don’t know that.

I always liked the fact that Billy was from North Carolina, where I was born, and that he liked baseball.  I do too.

Another quote from Billy: “Someday you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead.  Don’t believe a word of it.  I shall be more alive that I am now.  I will just have changed my address.  I will have gone into the presence of God.”

Really, really special.

Well, enough said.  He is home now.  We aren’t.  We are still here, aliens in a difficult environment, living and working as ambassadors for God.  Still work to do.

* GOD MOMENT: 9/11

Scheduled for months to be in the New York area for an important meeting on September 11, 2001, I began to hear these words in prayer about six weeks ahead when I prayed about the coming meeting: “Don’t make any plane reservations, don’t make any hotel reservations, don’t drive.”

These words came several times during prayer over the weeks as September 11 approached, sometimes in abbreviated form: ‘No airplane reservations, no hotel reservations, don’t drive.”

Since the appointment was so important, involved many people, and could not easily be changed, I asked my minister and his wife to come to the house to discuss and to pray.  All seemed dumbfounded at what might happen if I did not show up at the meeting.  One said, “You can’t go!”  And the other said, “You have to go!”

Finally, Cathy and I made the decision to fly up several days ahead so as to already be in the area on September 11.  The morning of the 11th, we went to the sight of the meeting.  As we walked on our way through the lobby of a building across the street, we were drawn by a stranger’s alarm to a television set in the lobby lounge.  And we stood there, silent, watching on the television the horrible scenes of airplanes striking the World Trade Center.  A man at a nearby table prayed, thinking this was the end of the world.

We just stood watching for several minutes.  Once in a while we would look at each other and nod.  After a while we walked on to the building of our meeting.  In short order a plane crashed into the Pentagon.  Our meeting was canceled for the day.

God had warned us.  We weren’t even supposed to be near.

IN GOD WE TRUST (and in no one else)

“…let God be true, but every man a liar…” – Romans 3:4

Hard words, but wise ones.  They are indeed true.  (Romans 3:4 is not the only place in the Bible this point is made.  You can also read Numbers 23:19, Hebrews 6:18, Titus 1:2, and 1 Samuel 15:29.

God is the one you can absolutely rely on, trust, believe.  His words and promises are true.  This is a truth you must know now and in the coming days.

But you do have to know Jesus to understand this.  You have to know God is real.  And you have to be guided by the Holy Spirit to be able to discern truth from falsehood, the right way to go from the wrong way.

These are difficult, difficult times, especially so for God’s people – his believers – because we see what is happening.  We discern the times.  Remember, people who do not know God cannot do that.  When you hear some leader say things that sound to you as patently false and then you are shocked at how many seem just to receive this false speech, remember that they can’t discern the truth.  The Bible makes the point ever so clearly that the god of this world, the devil, has blinded the minds of unbelievers.  And unbelievers make up the great majority of society.

Just because so many say they believe in God or that they are Christians does not make them Christians or believers.  In our society how many of the top leaders say they are Christians?  Yet look at their actions.  Look at the positions they take.  Look at the actions they advance.  I can say I am a nuclear physicist too, but you and I know I am not.  Going to a church occasionally does not make anyone a Christian.  Being born anew, born of water and the spirit as Jesus explained to Nicodemus, does it.  Or as Paul says, if you proclaim that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you are “saved.”  When Paul says believe, he means absolute belief, the type of belief you would give your life for.  And proclaiming that Jesus is your Lord means he is your boss, your leader.  It means you do what he says.  How many qualify under that explanation?

In this difficult, difficult time as we step every day down the path to the end of this age and the return of the Lord, there are so many conflicting and distressing actions and behaviors and such horrible news we are confronted with.  I heard someone say recently how shocked he was to see how rapidly the approval of the homosexual agenda in the US roared through.  You could say that about so many things, such as the taking of Jesus’ name out of government programs.  Or the extraordinary support given the muslim world by the government in Washington while increasingly oppressing Christians at home and barely recognizing the terrible horrors being inflicted on Christians abroad.  Yet the blind majority of Americans sits by and goes to work and to school.  They do not realize that soon there may be no work to go to, no school to attend.  This time is ending.  Their focus had better be on the Lord and what they should do in this time.

Back to the title.  Yes, God is the one you can trust – Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit.  Now we all I hope know a few close people we think we can trust, and likely we can in most instances.  I pray in all.  But we all know the pressures to which people are subject.  Haven’t you wondered why some people boldly run for office with some bold stands that you applaud, and then when they are elected suddenly they are silent and you scarcely hear from them again?  Were they just lying before when running for office, trying to get your vote?  Possibly.  But also consider this – you do not know what pressures have been brought to bear on them since they were elected.  I mean real pressures, the kind most people do not know about or want to think about.  And maybe these pressures were so serious they had to give up their campaign positions.  See, they are people.  They just couldn’t come through.

What if several terrorists with automatic weapons burst into a Sunday morning service and declared they would kill everyone who did not renounce Jesus?  Can you trust yourself in that situation to give the right response?  How many in  your church do you think would give the right response?  There is no living to the next day here – you cannot ever renounce Jesus.  Why do you think the early Christians willingly went to their death in arenas or elsewhere rather than renounce Jesus?  They knew he was real, that God was real.  They knew it was all true.  They knew they couldn’t renounce him.  One weakness of many who say they are Christians and attend weekly church services is that they really do not know God is real – they haven’t encountered the Holy Spirit, they haven’t been born again.  They don’t know Jesus.

Well, a lot to think about here.

One last point – the gift of discernment is extraordinarily important in this time, as well as the other gifts of the Spirit.  They come with being filled with and baptized with the Holy Spirit, as happened throughout Acts as God used the disciples to bring the Lord to new believers.  The Holy Spirit is for you who are near and for you who are far away, for all whom God will call, as Peter said in Acts 2:39.  He is someone you should earnestly seek.  If you don’t know the Holy Spirit, seek him.  Ask God for this gift.  Attend services of Spirit-filled ministries if you can find them.  Ask a born again, spirit-filled person to pray for you to receive and be baptized with the Spirit.  Spend time with God.  Get in a right relationship with him.

May God bless you and protect you and hold you in the palm of his hands.
