* GOD MOMENT: 9/11

Scheduled for months to be in the New York area for an important meeting on September 11, 2001, I began to hear these words in prayer about six weeks ahead when I prayed about the coming meeting: “Don’t make any plane reservations, don’t make any hotel reservations, don’t drive.”

These words came several times during prayer over the weeks as September 11 approached, sometimes in abbreviated form: ‘No airplane reservations, no hotel reservations, don’t drive.”

Since the appointment was so important, involved many people, and could not easily be changed, I asked my minister and his wife to come to the house to discuss and to pray.  All seemed dumbfounded at what might happen if I did not show up at the meeting.  One said, “You can’t go!”  And the other said, “You have to go!”

Finally, Cathy and I made the decision to fly up several days ahead so as to already be in the area on September 11.  The morning of the 11th, we went to the sight of the meeting.  As we walked on our way through the lobby of a building across the street, we were drawn by a stranger’s alarm to a television set in the lobby lounge.  And we stood there, silent, watching on the television the horrible scenes of airplanes striking the World Trade Center.  A man at a nearby table prayed, thinking this was the end of the world.

We just stood watching for several minutes.  Once in a while we would look at each other and nod.  After a while we walked on to the building of our meeting.  In short order a plane crashed into the Pentagon.  Our meeting was canceled for the day.

God had warned us.  We weren’t even supposed to be near.

* JESUS AND HIS GOVERNMENT AND ALL HE IS DOING

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. – Matthew 6:9-10 NIV
the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end
. – Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. – Luke 2:14 KJV
For four thousand years following the fateful decision by Adam and Eve to disobey God and their then being thrown out of the Garden of Eden, humankind was lost.  The Kingdom of God was not on earth.  Only through a rare few individuals known as prophets did God intercede and speak to people, prophets like Elijah and Isaiah.  God in that period was working on a plan to reconcile people to himself.  We’ve looked at this much in past years, how he spoke to people through these prophets, how he chose the Jews as the people to take the message, the history of the Jews, the receiving of God’s word, how eventually God’s plan was fulfilled in the wonderful coming and actions of Jesus Christ, his son and our savior.
Jesus made the point he came to preach the Kingdom of God.  That was why he came, he said.  His going to the cross and doing what he did made that Kingdom real and available for all who accepted Jesus as their savior.
That Kingdom in our current time on earth is inside each believer in Jesus Christ.  It is here on earth, but only inside us.  So wherever we believers go, we take the Kingdom of God with us.  We walk into a room, God comes into that room, regardless of however anyone else in the room thinks or believes.  Putting on the armor of God described by Paul, our feet are shod with the gospel of peace.  We take God’s peace with us.  And his truth.  And his righteousness.
But God’s total plan of reconciliation is yet not over!  It continues.  Soon, so very soon, so incredibly soon, the Lord will return to collect his believers:
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.–1 Thess. 4:16-17 KJV
In just a few years after that, about seven or a little more, he comes back with his holy ones (the angels and the believers) to win a victory at Armageddon over his enemies and to establish his Kingdom rule from Jerusalem.  (Revelation 19 and 20).
Then the Kingdom of God will truly be on earth in a physical way, as well as inside the believers!
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

A FINAL END OF YEAR WORD!
Cathy and I send a special thank-you from the bottom of our hearts to all those who are working with us in the fulfillment of the ministry to which the Lord has called us.  Right now that focus is especially on getting the new book WAKE UP, AMERICA! published and brought to the attention of and made available to everyone in the United States and the world.  A big task.  We again thank all of you for your prayers and your continuing donations and your support in all ways.  God bless you all!

We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas!
Now and always, Keep Your Eyes on Jesus!

A MUST-READ CHRISTMAS STORY - CLEMENTINES

God loves us. He really, really does. That’s a key part of the Christmas message. Why else would He ever have sent His son here to go through what he went through? And why else would Jesus ever have willingly gone to the cross?

I was reminded of that this past weekend in a way only God can arrange. Sunday afternoon a friend was coming to visit us at home. Late in the afternoon the doorbell rang, and I opened the door. There stood our friend, holding out a box of clementines. For those of you who do not know, clementines are small citrus fruit, like small oranges, and they seem to make an appearance in grocery stores about this time of year. They come in small but clearly distinct boxes.

Our friend handed me this box of clementines. “God told me to get this for you,” she said. And she went on, exclaiming that God was very specific and strong about it. “So I went into a grocery store and I couldn’t find them. I thought that I would just get a poinsettia, but well, God said to get clementines.” So she stuck with her search, and she found them. Later in the kitchen she spoke with Cathy and asked if clementines were my favorite. Our friend couldn’t get over how insistent God had been.

Later I thought more about this. I remembered how as my children grew up we would always get a box of clementines sometime around Christmas. It was a regular feature in our house. The box could always be found sitting somewhere in the kitchen. Everyone liked them. To this day when I see a display of clementines in a store, I want to buy a box.

And I thought some more. Here we are in the ministry involved in our usual activities and praying for guidance from God on key issues, like where and how to proceed in the expensive television ministry, where and what meetings to arrange, whether to begin another regular meeting in southeastern NC, and more. For months, even years, we have been going steadily forward, always fighting and overcoming attacks of the evil one which do come whenever anyone steps out for God. Into the midst of all that God sent an obedient woman friend to bring a box of clementines. Even when I write this the Holy Spirit is so strong in the office I keep stopping and reflecting. Is that love? Yes! And much more. That is God saying - John, even in the midst of all this, I’m still here, and I love you, and look, I even know little things about you, like how you like a box of clementines and what that means to you.

So I've been feeling really warm every since. God sent me a box of clementines for Christmas. God knows where you are and what you’re going through. He knows every hair on your head. Every day, if we’ll just look around and take time to see with spiritual eyes, we’ll see God directing our paths.

What a heavenly Father we have!

GOD MOMENT: THE EIGHT HOUR HEALING

Some years ago Cathy and I were preparing to attend a night meeting (not a meeting we were leading, just a program we were attending).  Just before leaving she whacked her foot on the lower sharp, pointed corner of a kitchen cabinet!  The pain was excruciating.  Eventually though she was able to hobble down to the car and off we went.

After the meeting was over, Cathy informed me she could not walk!  So I prayed for healing, for an end to pain, and she was able to get up and slowly walk to the car. We went home, slowly up the stairs, and into the bedroom where she lay down fully clothed on the bed, propping her foot up on a pillow.  I remember the foot was dramatic!  Looking at the bottom, it appeared as if a pitcher of blood was just being poured in the foot and the foot was filling with blood from the heel to the toe.  Cathy spoke over the telephone with her brother, a doctor, who told her she wouldn't be walking for six weeks.

But we quoted the healing scriptures and prayed for her foot to be healed.  Then we just went to sleep for the night.  Now, Cathy had the alarm clock set for about six or seven in the morning, and it was her custom to leap out of bed when the alarm clock rang. As morning approached, I suddenly heard the clock alarm ring.  And of course I instantly remembered how she was used to leaping from the bed. Well, that is what she did. She leaped up from the bed and came down hard standing on both feet. And she did not yell in pain! The foot was completely healed.  I mean completely.  No swelling, nothing.

It was an eight hour healing!!  I use this account often to describe how sometimes healing takes place over time.

* GOD MOMENT: SIGN OF THE DOVE

Cathy and I had long loved the beach environment and we one day finally realized we could live and work there.  Our goal was to find a house close to the ocean with a good view.  But after weekends of driving two hundred miles from our home and then searching and finding little that fit our desires or pocketbooks, we were becoming a bit depressed.  Finally, we decided to rank what we had found.  Two houses came out at the top of the list.
A second-row house had a great view but a walk-through revealed wood floors suffering from water damage, repair work underway on interior walls and floors, and a general musty smell.
The other house had been decorated by someone with great taste and flair, but it had no ocean view, and huge threatening dogs lived in a pen backing up to it.
We turned to prayer, seeking God’s guidance.  One day I came home from work to hear these words from Cathy: “I think our house has something to do with the word, ‘dove.’  That’s what I keep hearing when I pray.  And I also hear it is “farther down the beach.”
So we returned to the shore yet another weekend.  We scoured maps and searched everywhere for Dove Street, Dove Avenue, just any street that included the name dove, or for a development with that name.  We also looked farther down the beach.  Nothing was found.
Just before driving home, we visited a house under construction.  It was a few hundred feet from the ocean, on about the fifth row of houses.  As we looked about, the couple that lived across the street came to meet us.  After telling us how wonderful the neighborhood was, the husband said, “We would pay fifty thousand dollars just for the right to live in this neighborhood.”  Quite an endorsement.
The next weekend we returned and drove again to the house under construction.  We had by now realized it was indeed “farther down the beach,” about four blocks farther down.
Cathy and I walked through the construction rubble into the house.  The rooms were taking shape, and the wood sub floors were down.  As I looked about the main living area, Cathy continued out the back door.
Suddenly in a firm but not loud voice, I heard her say, “John, come out here.”
I walked to where she was standing.  She had a finger at her lips, motioning me to be quiet.
Cathy said not a word but pointed down to the right.  There standing quietly and looking back at us was a dove, a real, living dove.  For a moment we were overcome and absolutely still, looking at the beautiful bird and realizing the incredible hand of God.
We quickly checked out the entire house and even climbed onto a high unfinished deck.  No stairs had yet been built so we had to use a ladder.  Once there, we stood in awe, shocked by a spectacular view of the ocean.
We bought that house, the house farther down the beach, the house of the dove, the house to which Cathy had been guided.  It was also the house with our desired view of the ocean and, as has proven to be the case and as we were told, with a great neighborhood.  God is so good!

* SINNERS IN THE HANDS OF AN ANGRY GOD

The most famous and well-known sermon ever delivered in America is Jonathan Edwards’ Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.  Way back in 1741 Edwards gave this sermon at a church in Enfield, Connecticut.  I have read that Enfield was not an especially spiritual place.  Nothing special on that front was happening there at the time.  Edwards reportedly read the sermon he had written down word for word.
As the sermon went forward, people in attendance began shouting out “What shall I do to be saved? O, I am going to hell!”  People came forward to the pulpit.  One report says people begged him to stop.  At one point Edwards asked everyone to be quiet so he could continue.  The anguish of suddenly realizing who God is and who they were was upon them.
You can read this great sermon on the Internet.  Just type in the title above and hit search.
What does the message all come down to?  Read and think about this paragraph taken from the sermon.  It goes right to the heart of the message, to the point of who God the Father and Jesus and human beings indeed are and the disastrous position any are in who have not been born anew.
The bow of God’s wrath is bent, and the arrow made ready on the string, and justice bends the arrow at your heart, and strains the bow, and it is nothing but the mere pleasure of God, and that of an angry God, without any promise or obligation at all, that keeps the arrow one moment from being made drunk with your blood. Thus all you that never passed under a great change of heart, by the mighty power of the Spirit of God upon your souls; all you that were never born again, and made new creatures, and raised from being dead in sin, to a state of new, and before altogether unexperienced light and life, are in the hands of an angry God.
Without a person’s being born again, without their accepting Jesus and thus without his saving grace standing between them and God the Father, they are in the hands of an angry God.  That is God who hates sin, who has always hated sin.  Early in Genesis 6 God looked at the world, saw the behavior of people, and decided he would limit man’s days to 120 years.  Just a couple verses later he saw that every inclination of the thoughts of a man’s heart was only evil all the time.  He decided to eliminate all humans.  God grieved that he had made man, but then Noah found favor in the eyes of God, and God spared Noah and his family.  Every other person on earth was killed in the flood.
God hates sin.  He hates evil.  Of course he does.  The only hope any human has is in the Lord Jesus Christ and what he did for them on the cross.  And to benefit from that hope, a person must recognize Jesus for who he is and accept Jesus as their Lord.
All those people who are not born again, who have not believed truly in the Lord Jesus, are in the hands of an angry God.  It is just a matter of time until his wrath is poured out on them.  And be assured, unless they change their ways and come to the Lord Jesus, it will be…for eternity.  Right now the mass of humanity is in this lost group.  And time is running out.
To paraphrase Edwards’ closing lines, the wrath of Almighty God is now undoubtedly hanging over a great part of humanity.  Let everyone fly out of Sodom.  Haste and escape for your lives.  (That escaping of course means to seek Jesus, change what you have been doing, realize who he is, be born again, accept him as your Lord.).
I know that most of the readers of this publication are indeed born again believers.  But I also know that each of you know many among your relatives, family, friends, work associates, neighbors, who are not.  God reached those people in Enfield that day back in 1741.  Perhaps he is ready through you to reach those you care about.  Give or send them a copy of this article.  Ask the Holy Spirit to help you in speaking to them about Jesus and their great need.  Ask him to arrange the time and place, to guide you to all such encounters he would have you have anywhere.
Keep Your Eyes on Jesus!

* THE WORLD IS TOO MUCH WITH US

It is, isn’t it?  For everyone but those totally blind and ignorant of the times in which we live and what is happening.  Certainly it is for all those true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.  For those believers, staying focused on Jesus is essential to not drifting off into sadness and depression.

William Wordsworth wrote those words in the title above in a poem in 1802.  He was concerned about the industrial revolution, that age in which humanity suddenly discovered what it could do with advanced machines and organization techniques.  Factories and mills were growing fast with workers were working long hard days therein.  I understand he was concerned about the materialism and the separation of people from the natural world, the natural environment.

Well, today we can apply his same words to our world, although instead of being concerned about the industrial revolution we are concerned about the implications of the modern computer and other technology on all our lives, especially children, and about the fall away from God, the ever growing materialism, the focus in entertainment and elsewhere on sensual pleasures and violence, the massive growth in deception and delusion.

Another great line Wordsworth wrote in the same poem was

We have given our hearts away

Well, the world surely has.  True believers in the Lord have not, and that is why their hearts ache at what they see and hear.  That is why the world is too much with us, late and soon.

But we must persevere.  We must keep our eyes on Jesus.

We know the end of the story.  We know who has won.  We have read the end of the book.  We cannot give up now. We must each finish the race God has given us.

Keep Your Eyes on Jesus!
