I just saw several large churches
held services Sunday with their members attending. And I have heard that some pastors are
calling for people to attend the church services on Easter.
What are we believers to do and
to think in the face of such actions?
First, we can respect the hearts
of such people who want to get together and worship. Certainly we can.
We can also warn them that this
is irrational and dangerous behavior. It
is good to worship the Lord, to worship God.
We know that. We also know that
God in creating us gave each of us a brain.
Unless we have stopped thinking, unless we are among those on earth
living a life of delusion, we believers who have the Holy Spirit have the
ability to discern truth from falsehood.
Attending such church services in
a large group in the midst of this highly contagious coronavirus pestilence is
just ignoring wisdom. It is not using
the abilities God has given us. Unless
one of these pastors has truly heard God direct him to call for such a
get-together, he is truly misleading the flock.
Of course God has absolute power
and authority. Of course people who
truly know the Lord can protect themselves and heal people in Jesus name. But how many do you know who live like
that? How many know what to do? Very very few. That is why people love to hear the healing
stories from our ministry or some other ministry that has operated in healing.
Remember, the Bible warns people
not to test the Lord thy God (Matthew 4:7).
A person can worship God at home
alone or when watching an online church service. He can worship and pray and be in communion
with the Lord anywhere. A serious
believer knows that. There is no
overwhelming reason for people to take such an inordinate risk on Easter Sunday
or any other Sunday. Wisdom and
discernment are part of being a believer.
Our role is to stay focused on
the Lord, to seek his guidance in all situations, to discern the truth in all
situations, to live with the best understanding we have of the Lord’s guidance
and plans. Recognizing the guidance of
the Holy Spirit is essential.
Discern truth! Stay away from charlatan, delusional leaders,
fear mongers. Listen to the daily news
to stay abreast of happenings but do not watch huge amounts of that, for some
of the media and the politicians indeed are operating almost in a hysteria
mode. You need facts. You need truth. And you need to live in the peace that passes
all understanding, Jesus’ peace.
