Several years ago Cathy and I
were sitting in a church service on Christmas Eve. It was really a warm, precious service, one
we have attended as often as possible when we are in the area of this
church. As the program went forward, at
one point very clearly I heard the Lord speak to me. He said, “These people are singing about my
birth, and here I am coming soon.”
And now we have just gone through
the Easter season, and all the wonderful uplifting music for Easter morning
that reflects Jesus’ rising from the dead.
It is the singular accomplishment of his ministry on earth, his victory
over death and sin and sickness and disease and curses of the law and poverty and
shame and regret and evil and the world.
And it deserves celebrating. He
took care of everything that separated people from God.
BUT – Jesus did this almost 2000
years ago. It’s not a new thing. It’s only a new thing for people who do not
know Jesus and have not received the blessings of this incredible action on the
part of Jesus and his father. It’s only
a new thing for those just now discovering what happened and what he did and
what it all means.
And again, the Lord’s words to me
so many years ago come back: “…and here I am coming soon.”
He is not on the cross. He is not just off the cross. He did not rise this past Easter morning….or
any of the Easter mornings before that for almost 2000 years. No, that has been done. He has paid the price for you and for
me. He did all that was necessary to
restore each one of us to God, to earn for us forgiveness for our sins and life
eternal with himself and his father (John 17:3). He did it.
Jesus, you did it. YOU DID
IT! It is a done deal.
The problem is with the people
that populate the earth, that don’t know, that maybe are not open to
knowing. The problem also perhaps is
with those who truly know and are not sharing, not stepping out enough.
And yes, the real problem for
humanity today is this: “…and here I am coming soon.”
Jesus is coming back very, very
soon. Will he find faith on earth - in
you, in those you know? Who will he find
ready to respond to his call?
Keep Your Eyes on Jesus!
