What’s the matter with you? Why so silent?
There is nothing to be proud of
about being a member of the “silent” majority.
Jesus was not silent. “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. (Matthew 10:32-33, NIV)
Paul was not silent. Nor Isaiah, nor Jeremiah, nor Joshua, nor
Moses, nor Peter, nor John.
Neither is or was Billy Graham or
Franklin Graham or Oral Roberts or those rare few actors in
Hollywood who dare speak up about
their heavenly father. Yes, in our day
we have examples of people who are not silent.
And they speak up at real costs to themselves. Missionaries and ministers and some ordinary
citizens.
But the great majority of
believers – or maybe we should say partial believers or would-be believers - sit at home or work in their jobs and go to
church on Sundays and ignore everything around.
We are indeed in the time of the
end of the age. Huge numbers of people
in our society in the US and throughout the world are clearly lost, spiritually
lost
We are living in a nation of a
largely godless entertainment community, a largely godless news media, an
apparently largely godless national government, and sadly even an increasingly
godless educational system at the college and local level. That is the world in which you and your
family are living.
Time to stop pretending. Time to stand up.
The Lord and countless others
throughout history have stood up for you.
Where are you? If you know who
Jesus is and what he did, and if he is your lord, you know enough and you are
equipped enough to speak to others about Jesus and to stand up for him in your
community.
There are very simple ways to do
that. For example, if you receive our
newsletter by email, you could easily forward it to others in a few
seconds. I know of one of our partners
who makes paper copies of the newsletter or of one of our Signs
of the Times or Watchman
Warnings and gives them to neighbors and others. I know of instances where our newsletters are
used to teach Sunday school classes or in a Bible Study. You could surely do that kind of thing – even
encourage someone to get on our distribution list or to watch our teaching
videos on the web. Or you could give them some of our cds, such as What Did Jesus Do? or Just
How Does Anyone Ever Really Get into Heaven?
And I know of instances where
our partners direct people far from them to our web site to read or watch the
material there. Of course you could also
do that with material from other godly ministries as well.
These are the last days. We are way past the beginning of the birth
pains that Jesus talked about in referring to signs before his return. The world is now well into the falling away
from God (2 Thessalonians 2:3) and believers are now well into the great need
to watch so they are not deceived (Luke 21:8).
If you can’t see things are spiraling downward in the larger society and
world, you need to pray for better spiritual sight.
You know of the things of the Lord
and of his imminent return, the things of which I write. You have been exposed to them. You can’t say that you never heard them. And so do not God’s warnings about being a
watchman apply to you? If you do not
know such things and thus do not warn others, God cannot hold you accountable
for not warning them. But since you do
know…?
